Raising aspirations and supporting achievement through learning outside the classroom.
Widening Horizons is an innovative project developed by the Millfields Trust, they work with the Year 5 children from the six local primary schools within the Stonehouse neighbourhood. They support and enable students to explore new and challenging learning experiences with visits to a number of different venues spread across the city and further afield.
These experiences aim to raise aspiration and open doors to possible career paths that they may not have previously considered. It also helps them to make links between what they learn in school and how it relates to the wider world.
Here are some examples of the places they visit: City College, BBC Southwest, Radio Plymouth, Diggin’ it, Cite Restaurant, TR2, Plymouth Museum, Callington Space Centre, Eden Project, National Marine Aquarium, Plymouth Music Zone and University of Plymouth (School of Computing & Mathematics).
